A romantic treetop hideaway tucked in a densely wooded valley above the Taaibos River in Welgevonden reserve, five glass-fronted thatch suites gaze over forested hills and valleys, morning and afternoon drives work the reserve’s plains and koppies, evenings slide into lantern-lit dinners on the big deck with bush sounds all around, “Tshwene” nods to the chacma baboon, a playful bit of trivia for sundowners.

Our Favorite Rooms

The Honeymoon Suite is the headline request for its privacy, valley panorama, fireplace and private jacuzzi, view lovers ask for a high, valley-facing suite for long horizons between drives, guests who prefer shorter walks choose a suite closer to the lounge and pool.

Dining

Contemporary South African comfort with a sense of place, think bush breakfasts after long mornings, salad-and-grill lunches on the deck and candlelit dinners in the boma when the wind drops, guest favourites include pot-bread warm from the coals, venison from the grill with chakalaka and pap, and an old-school malva pudding finale, Kay & Monty pours are on hand for a house pairing.

Packing Tips

Neutral layers for cool winter dawns and warm afternoons, a light windproof for open vehicles, soft-soled shoes for timber walkways, swimwear for the pool, a soft duffel if you are chartering in.

Insider Tips

Time your arrival for the 12:30 pick-up at Welgevonden Main Gate so the transfer doubles as a mini game drive, ask the team to pair a boma dinner with Rare Earth’s Kay & Monty wines, and if you’ve booked the Honeymoon Suite, request a post-drive stargazing soak in the private jacuzzi.
