GweGwe Beach Lodge sits within the Mkambati Nature Reserve on South Africa’s Wild Coast, where rolling green hills meet the Indian Ocean. It is one of the few places where you can watch zebra grazing while dolphins move through the surf. The lodge combines a strong sense of place with a relaxed, design-led coastal feel, offering a rare blend of wilderness, community-driven conservation, and understated luxury in an area that remains largely untouched.

Coastal walks, hiking, canoeing, mountain biking, snorkelling, fishing, game drives, spa treatments, and seasonal Sardine Run experiences.

Our Favorite Rooms

Rooms 1–7, closest to the ocean, offer the most dramatic experience, with uninterrupted sea views and private decks, some with plunge pools. We personally think Room 5 and 6 are the best also in terms of privacy. Expect spacious, beach-chic interiors, en suite bathrooms, and a seamless indoor-outdoor flow.

Dining

Dining is relaxed, authentic and generous, often served on the deck overlooking the ocean. Expect fresh, seasonal dishes with a strong coastal influence, from seafood to farm-style meals, paired with South African wines and a laid-back atmosphere.

Packing Tips

Light coastal clothing, swimwear, a windbreaker for breezy evenings, and good walking shoes for exploring the coastline and reserve.

Insider Tips

Ask Chef Nozi for the Num-Num Berry Cheesecake- it is probably one of the best cheesecake we ever tasted. Picked from around the lodge, the fruit, which is high in vitamin C, calcium, and magnesium, has a sweet, cranberry-like flavour.
