Twelve cantilevered, open-front “spaces” strung along a ridgeline above the Luvuvhu, remote-controlled screens rolling up to let the fever-tree forest and baobab hillsides flood in, it’s contemporary Africa at the very top of Kruger’s remote Makuleke, with long valley views by day and river sounds at night.

Our Favorite Rooms

River View Spaces draw the broadest sweep over the Luvuvhu and constant elephant traffic - especially room 11, the Honeymoon Space (room 12) crowns the ridge with wraparound views, while Bush View or Treetop Spaces sit a little closer to the lounge for the easiest walks between pool and dinner.

Dining

Contemporary South African with bush breakfasts on the riverbank, grill-and-salad lunches on the deck, and candlelit dinners under a star-washed sky; house pours spotlight Kay & Monty wines, with favourites like slow-braised venison, pan-seared linefish and a still-warm milk-tart finish when the chef’s in the mood.

Packing Tips

Neutral layers for cool winter dawns and warm afternoons, a light windproof for open vehicles, soft-soled shoes for timber walkways, a headlamp for starry walks back to your space, and a dry bag for cameras when river mists roll in.

Insider Tips

Ask for a fever-tree-forest brunch after a long morning along Lanner Gorge, pair dinners with Kay & Monty wines from Rare Earth’s own Plettenberg estate, and time one sunset at Crook’s Corner where South Africa, Zimbabwe and Mozambique meet.
