Fly to Hoedspruit Eastgate Airport (HDS), about a 45-minute flight from Johannesburg (roughly 2.5 hours from Cape Town), then a road transfer of about 45–60 minutes into the reserve, alternatively take a private charter directly onto the Thornybush airstrip, or self-drive about 5–5.5 hours from Johannesburg.
Eight tented suites, each sleeping two and each with its own private deck, plunge pool and outdoor shower overlooking the Monwana riverbed, so wildlife sightings happen straight from your own veranda. The suites share the same Rech-and-Carstens design language, nostalgic South African safari style reworked in contemporary form.
Full board with three meals a day, from coffee, tea and rusks served on the main deck at dawn to dining across the upper and lower decks of the wood-and-stone main area overlooking the riverbed, with all local drinks (soft drinks, house wines, local beers and spirits) and minibar drinks included.
Neutral safari layers with a warm jacket and beanie for cold winter dawn drives in open vehicles (May–August), lighter clothing for hot summers, closed shoes, a sun hat, sunscreen and binoculars, insect repellent and antimalarials, swimwear for the private plunge pool, and smart-casual for dinner on the deck.
Ask for a suite well along the river bend, the private deck and plunge pool over the Monwana riverbed are the whole point here, and game comes to the water in front of you. Being a private reserve, guides and trackers can drive off-road and after dark, delivering sightings you can't get in Kruger proper.
Saseka sits within the 14,000-hectare Thornybush Nature Reserve, part of the Greater Kruger conservation area where internal fences with the national park have been dropped to allow wildlife to migrate naturally across the wider ecosystem, and the reserve has earned a long-standing reputation for conservation firsts. The camp itself was built to blend into its setting in wood and stone with a natural, sustainable architectural approach, and guest levies support the reserve's wildlife management and anti-poaching.
