Asilia Africa's first lodge in Uganda (opened 2026) and its entry into the mountain-gorilla market, Erebero, "a place where you can see far", is built into a ridge high on the northern fringe of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, looking out across a folding sweep of dark montane canopy where morning mist settles low and turacos call through the trees, eight glass-fronted, forest-view suites are crafted primarily from locally sourced bamboo, designed with Bali's Pablo Luna Studio to echo the organic shapes of leaves and hills, each with a private deck, boot-room entrance, outdoor shower and a bathtub with a view, a swimming pool, sunken-fireplace lounge, library and in-suite spa complete the picture, and the whole lodge sits on 45 acres being reforested with tens of thousands of native trees, sustainable luxury with real purpose.

Our Favorite Rooms

Eight glass-fronted suites built into the hillside amongst the vegetation, each with a private deck facing the forest, a boot-room entrance for muddy trekking gear, an outdoor shower and a freestanding bathtub positioned to overlook the misty hills, crafted from pliable, locally sourced bamboo for a design that genuinely feels part of the forest. Suites configure as double, twin or triple.

Dining

All meals prepared onsite by Asilia's chefs, sourcing fresh vegetables and produce as locally as possible from the surrounding communities, all drinks included apart from premium spirits and champagne, plus packed lunches for gorilla-trekking days, with dietary needs happily accommodated.

Packing Tips

Long-sleeved neutral clothing and sturdy waterproof hiking boots for muddy, steep forest trekking, a light rain jacket (rainforest showers can come any time), gardening-style gloves for grabbing vegetation, a warm layer for cool highland mornings and evenings, insect repellent and your antimalarials, a face mask for near the gorillas, and binoculars for the exceptional birding, use the suite's boot room to keep the mud out.

Insider Tips

Erebero uses Ruhija as its primary gorilla-trekking launch point (with Buhoma as a backup), a quieter, higher, less-visited sector of Bwindi, so treks feel wilder. Book gorilla permits well ahead as they're strictly capped and separate from the rate, and note the minimum age for gorilla trekking is 15 (children 5+ are welcome at the lodge for other activities). Beyond trekking, take the reforestation walk-and-talk to see the 45-acre native-forest project first-hand, plus Batwa cultural visits, garden tours and tea tastings.

Conservation Efforts

Erebero Hills is a nature-positive project at its core, built primarily from renewable, locally sourced bamboo and set on 45 acres being reforested into a native-forest buffer zone adjacent to the national park, with partner Change a Life Bwindi they've already planted 25,000+ native trees in consultation with the Batwa. The new forest gives wildlife room to expand, restores a landscape the displaced Batwa can access to keep their cultural heritage alive, and creates new livelihoods for the surrounding Bakiga community; the lodge runs on solar with a backup generator.
