Fly by scheduled light aircraft from Maun (MUB) or Kasane to the lodge’s own registered Savute airstrip (directly opposite camp, a one-minute transfer)
Twelve thatched tented suites raised on wooden stilts and spaced along the channel, each with contemporary, earthy interiors crafted by local artisans, a private deck, indoor and outdoor showers, air-conditioning and a refrigerator. The whole point is the waterhole, (Room #4, right in front of the water), where elephants drink and bathe metres from your deck well into the night.
All-inclusive dining with breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner, served in the lodge restaurant overlooking the waterhole, on the deck above the elephants, or privately, with all drinks (teas and coffees, soft drinks, house wines, local beer and a select list of spirits) included.
Neutral safari layers with a warm jacket, beanie and gloves for cold winter dawn drives in open vehicles (June–August), lighter clothing for the hot October build-up, closed shoes for any walking, a sun hat, sunscreen and binoculars, insect repellent and antimalarials, swimwear for the pool, a headtorch, plenty of camera gear (the waterhole delivers nonstop action), and a soft bag (~20 kg) for the light aircraft.
Savute is all about elephants and predators, the channel and waterhole draw huge herds plus lion, leopard, cheetah and wild dog, so spend time at the new viewing hide at dawn and dusk, and simply on your own deck (the on-site action is extraordinary).
Set within Chobe National Park, Botswana’s first and third-largest national park and home to one of Africa’s largest elephant populations (sometimes thousands at once), the lodge is sustainably designed to sit lightly on the land, with eco-friendly features and interiors furnished by local artisans. Guest rates include Botswana National Park fees, directly supporting the protection of this iconic wilderness.
