Like a small Greek village dropped into a raw African landscape, Santorini Mozambique unfurls across the red cliffs of Kingfisher Bay just north of Vilanculos, gazing out over the Indian Ocean to the islands of the Bazaruto Archipelago, four whitewashed villas in neutral, nautical tones host a maximum of twenty-four guests, the five-suite Main Villa (bookable suite-by-suite), the romantic stand-alone Villa na Colina, the two-bedroom Chapel and the four-bedroom family Villa da Praia, each with private pools, chefs and hosts, days drift between three pools, dhow sunset cruises, catamaran island-hopping and snorkelling, horse rides along powder-white beaches and Spa na Colina, informal, low-key and utterly private.

Our Favorite Rooms

Four distinct villas suit different travellers. The Main Villa is the heart, five sea-fronting, air-conditioned en-suite suites named after the five Bazaruto islands, each spilling onto a private ocean-view patio, over a multi-tiered open-plan space with two pools, a martini deck, TV room, library and children's playroom, bookable suite-by-suite or as a whole. Villa na Colina is a charming stand-alone suite, the pick for honeymooners, with full access to the Main Villa's amenities. The Chapel is an intimate two-bedroom villa (2–4 guests) with a private chef, butler and pool, ideal for couples. Villa da Praia is the four-bedroom family villa (up to 8 adults + 4 children) with its own chef, butler, pool and lounge, purpose-built for families and multigenerational groups.

Dining

Deluxe, chef-driven dining with constantly evolving menus built around fresh local seafood and produce from the villa's own herb garden, served across multiple settings, ocean-facing decks, candlelit private annexes, a shaded pool courtyard with a pizza oven and gas barbecue, all meals plus local-brand drinks, house wines and a complimentary minibar included (the exclusive-use villas have their own dedicated chefs).

Tips

Packing Tips

Lightweight, breathable resort clothing and swimwear, reef-safe sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses, a light cover-up for the local village and town visits, water shoes for the reef and sandbanks, insect repellent for dusk, a light layer for breezy evenings and boat trips, and your antimalarials, plus your ETA/e-visa confirmation (Mozambique's entry requirements changed in February 2026).

Insider Tips

Santorini is the "gateway to the Bazaruto Archipelago," so build in a full-day catamaran trip to Benguerra, Bazaruto or Magaruque for snorkelling at Two Mile Reef and a stop at the Pansy Island sandbank, and a sunset dhow cruise along the Vilanculos coastline. Non-motorised activities (kayaks, SUP, beach games) are complimentary, while boat charters, diving, horse riding, kitesurfing and helicopter flights are extra. Time a visit for the July–October humpback whale season, and note the region is home to the last viable dugong population. Crucially, check Mozambique's updated ETA/e-visa rules well ahead via evisa.gov.mz (at least a week for ETA countries, 2–3 weeks for visa countries).

Conservation Efforts

Santorini sits at the edge of the Bazaruto Archipelago, declared a National Marine Reserve in 1971 and one of Africa's finest diving and snorkelling destinations, home to the region's last viable dugong population plus humpback whales, manta rays and dolphins, park fees on island excursions support its protection. The villa runs community-minded experiences including a visit to the rural Chigamane school (30 minutes inland) and a guided cultural tour of Vilanculos supporting local artisans and markets, and grows its own herbs and vegetables on-site.
