Formerly the family home of Singita founder Luke Bailes' grandfather, Castleton is Singita's exclusive-use villa in the heart of the Sabi Sand Nature Reserve. Designed around the atmosphere of an elegant African farmhouse, it combines relaxed country living with world-class safari experiences. Accommodating up to 12 guests, Castleton offers complete privacy with a dedicated guide, tracker, chef, host, and private vehicles, making it ideal for families and groups seeking a personalised safari at their own pace. The property overlooks manicured lawns, a busy waterhole, and the surrounding wilderness, creating a unique blend of home and safari lodge.

Our Favorite Rooms

All six cottages are positioned separately from the main homestead, creating a wonderful sense of privacy while remaining close to the communal areas. Two cottages feature interleading rooms, making them particularly well suited to families with younger children. Expect spacious bedrooms, large bathrooms, private verandas, and interiors that feel more like a refined country home than a traditional safari lodge.

Dining

Dining at Castleton feels like staying in a private country home rather than a lodge. Meals are tailored entirely around guest preferences by a dedicated private chef and can be enjoyed on the verandah overlooking the waterhole, around the boma under the stars, or in the farmhouse-style kitchen. Cooking and baking experiences can also be arranged, making food a particularly interactive part of the stay.

Packing Tips

Neutral safari clothing, a warm layer for winter mornings, swimwear, tennis attire if you plan to use the court, and comfortable shoes for bush walks.

Insider Tips

Castleton is one of the few safari properties where guests genuinely spend time between activities. Make use of the tennis court, bocce court, trampoline, country kitchen, and private wine cellar. The waterhole in front of the homestead is often active throughout the day, making wildlife viewing possible without leaving the property.

Conservation Efforts

Located within Singita's 45,000-acre private reserve in Sabi Sand, Castleton contributes to the protection of one of Africa's most celebrated leopard habitats. Through the Singita Lowveld Trust, conservation efforts focus on anti-poaching operations, biodiversity monitoring, habitat restoration, and community development programmes that support neighbouring communities.
