Activities
Chimpanzee trekking and the chimpanzee habituation experience in Kibale Forest, guided nature and birding walks (e.g. to Lake Lugembe), a fireside chat with Kibale Chimpanzee Project primatologists, a visit to the Rwenzori Sculpture Gallery and bronze foundry, Roots & Shoots community visits, and the spa

Our Favorite Rooms

Eight hand-built bandas split four Deluxe and four Standard, all positioned along the ridge for views west to the Rwenzori Mountains, the Deluxe bandas are the pick for their extra space and prime positioning, and every banda comes with a personal butler and the lodge's signature handcrafted finishes by Volcanoes' artisans.

Dining

All-inclusive and locally led, the kitchen serves Batoro-inspired dishes such as Filinda, a delicacy traditionally served at marriage ceremonies, and the rate covers soft drinks, standard and premium spirits, signature cocktails, cellar wines and single malt whiskies (French champagne excepted), all delivered with personal butler service.

Packing Tips

Long-sleeved neutral clothing and sturdy waterproof boots for muddy forest trekking, a rain jacket for the rainforest, gardening-style gloves for grabbing vegetation, insect repellent and your antimalarials, a warm layer for the cooler highland evenings around Fort Portal, and binoculars and a camera (no flash near the chimps), porters are available at the trailhead.

Insider Tips

Choose the chimpanzee habituation experience for four hours with a chimp group rather than the standard one-hour trek if you want a deeper encounter, add a fireside chat with primatologists from the Kibale Chimpanzee Project, and remember everything from premium drinks to all massages is included, so it's genuinely all-in.

Conservation Efforts

Built by an in-house team of local artisans with over 200,000 indigenous seedlings planted across the central acres, the lodge channels its community-and-conservation fee through the Volcanoes Safaris Partnership Trust into projects around Kibale, including a Jane Goodall Institute Roots & Shoots program building women leaders in conservation, membership of the Albertine Apes Alliance for responsible ecotourism, a tree nursery and reforestation effort, a cultural partnership with the Rwenzori Sculpture Foundation, and a new vocational centre at the nearby Sadhguru School.
