The largest and most sociable of the four Sabi Sabi lodges, warm and welcoming Bush Lodge is deservedly known as the "luxury home in the bush", set at the heart of the Sabi Sand overlooking a busy waterhole and open plain, twenty-five suites and two family bush villas host up to fifty guests amid a vibrant, eclectic mix of furnishings gathered from across Africa, the facilities are extensive, two pools including a dedicated kids' pool, the acclaimed Amani Spa, a gym with bushveld views, an EleFun children's centre and a boma for fireside feasts, days run on twice-daily open-vehicle drives and walking safaris with expert rangers and trackers in some of the finest Big Five and leopard territory on Earth, and the whole Sabi Sabi collection has been proudly family-owned and run since 1979, making this the most family-friendly of the group.

Our Favorite Rooms

Twenty-five rooms styled with a rich blend of traditional African motifs and contemporary luxury, twenty-four Luxury Suites (air-conditioning, en-suite bathrooms, private viewing decks) plus the standout Mandleve Deluxe Suite, a romantic couples' choice with a private pool, separate lounge and its own exclusive guide services. For families and groups, the two Luxury Bush Villas each sleep up to four adults (max six) with a private pool, lounge and dedicated services, the pick for multi-generational stays. Bush Lodge can also be booked exclusively for weddings, reunions and milestone celebrations.

Dining

Sumptuous cuisine on a Fully Inclusive Plus basis, breakfast, lunch and a fireside "boma" dinner, served in the dining area overlooking the waterhole or privately, with all drinks included except French Champagne and Private Collection cellar wines, and dedicated children's menus and mealtimes for families.

Packing Tips

Neutral safari layers with a warm jacket and beanie for cold winter dawn drives in open vehicles (May–August), lighter clothing for hot summers, closed shoes for bush walks, a sun hat, sunscreen and binoculars, insect repellent and antimalarials, swimwear for the pools, smart-casual for dinner, and a good camera with a long lens for the leopards.

Insider Tips

Bush Lodge is the family choice among the Sabi Sabi lodges, with a dedicated kids' pool, the EleFun Centre and an Alex the Ranger children's programme. Being a private reserve, your ranger and tracker drive off-road and after dark for exceptional leopard and big-cat sightings. Fly into Skukuza Airport for a short transfer rather than the long road from Johannesburg. Children are welcome from 6 in suites (all ages in the villas).

Conservation Efforts

Bush Lodge sits within the Sabi Sand, the birthplace of sustainable wildlife tourism in southern Africa and part of the unfenced Greater Kruger, where wildlife moves freely across the ecosystem. The guest conservation levy funds the Sabie Game Reserve NPC (a non-profit) and its conservation, reserve management, security, access control, anti-poaching and community-development work, alongside Sabi Sabi's long-standing community and staff-development commitments.
