Fly by light aircraft from Entebbe (EBB) to Kihihi Airstrip, followed by a road transfer of about 1.5–2 hours to Buhoma, alternatively a long, scenic drive from Entebbe/Kampala (roughly 8–9 hours), often broken with a night en route.
Fourteen large stone-and-thatch suites, twelve Superior Deluxe and two Premium Deluxe, all with hardwood floors, mahogany four-poster beds, writing desks, big windows and double doors, generous en-suite bathrooms with terracotta mosaic showers, and a private balcony terrace looking straight onto the Bwindi treetops and valley. Our clients consistently praise the space, cleanliness and forest views. The pick for families are the two family suites connected by a shared living room, or the two-bedroom Munyanga Suite (opened 2022).
Full board with warm, home-style cooking, all meals plus afternoon tea and selected beverages (bottled water and a glass of house wine, a beer or a soft drink with dinner) included, taken al fresco on the wraparound patio or in the cosy wood-built main area, with menus that guests praise and dietary needs accommodated.
Long-sleeved neutral clothing and sturdy waterproof hiking boots for muddy, steep forest trekking, a light rain jacket (this is rainforest, it can pour any time), gardening-style gloves for grabbing vegetation, a warm layer for cool highland mornings and evenings, insect repellent and your antimalarials, gaiters and a walking pole if you have them, plus a face mask to wear near the gorillas, binoculars for the exceptional birding, and a daypack.
Do two treks if time and budget allow, the single hour with the gorillas flies by, and a second visit lets you put the camera down and simply take it in. The lodge is a genuine 5–10 minute walk to the Buhoma park headquarters, so no long pre-dawn drive to the briefing, a real advantage. Book gorilla permits well ahead (they're strictly capped and separate from the room rate), note the minimum age for gorilla trekking is 15, and hire a porter at the trailhead, it eases the climb and supports the community.
