Roughly an hour's drive (about 75 km) from Cape Town International Airport (CPT), with private transfers arranged on request and easy self-drive access; there is no airstrip.
Across the collection the pick depends on the mood: at Leeu Estates, rooms split between the heritage 19th-century Manor House and free-standing cottages dotted through the vines, families and privacy-seekers love the standalone Terroir, The Oaks and Protea House cottages (private pools, braai areas, hot tubs), while the showpiece is the ~115 m² Leeu Suite with its hot tub, fire pit, private spa path and stargazing telescope. In the village, Leeu House is the honeymoon base of choice, individually styled rooms at the quiet end of the high street, and our clieents across all three consistently rave about the vineyard-edge infinity pool, the art, and staff (Honest and Marius are named repeatedly).
A genuine culinary destination in South Africa's gourmet capital: at Leeu Estates the acclaimed La Petite Colombe (sister to Constantia's La Colombe) and the resident-only The Dining Room, plus the Manor House Bar; at Leeu House The Conservatory with all-day dining and the next-door Tuk Tuk microbrewery; and at Le Quartier Français the casual-fine Protégé and fine-dining Épice, all built around farm-to-table produce and paired with Mullineux & Leeu and Great Heart wines.
Elegant evening wear for the fine-dining restaurants (this is a dress-for-dinner kind of place), layers for hot summer days and cool evenings, a warm jacket for cold, wet winters (June–August), comfortable shoes for vineyard and village strolls, swimwear for the pools, sun hat and sunscreen in summer, and ideally a pre-arranged driver so everyone can enjoy the wine tasting.
Use the complimentary evening shuttle from Leeu Estates into the village for dinner, wine tasting at the Mullineux & Leeu Wine Studio is complimentary for in-house guests, and book La Petite Colombe well ahead as it sells out, don't miss the Everard Read sculpture trail through the vineyards, and note Leeu House is strictly adults-only (18+) unless booked exclusively, so families should choose Leeu Estates' cottages. The Franschhoek Wine Tram is the classic way to tour the farms, and the Pinotage vinotherapy spa treatment is the signature.
Leeu Estates irrigates its farmland and vineyards with recycled greywater and moves guests around on electric golf carts, the kitchens draw on the on-site Leeu Locally Grown vegetable gardens and orchards for daily harvests, and the estate maintains landscaped indigenous fynbos alongside its vines, while the collection's patronage of the arts (the two Everard Read galleries and an artist-residency programme) supports the cultural life of the valley.
