The only luxury lodge inside the gates of Uganda's Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, completely reimagined and reopened in 2025, ten standalone forest suites of a generous 105 square metres set apart among the trees, each with a four-poster bed, a deep round tub with rainforest views and a private deck with sculptural hanging chairs and Leica binoculars for the monkeys, days begin with French-press coffee before a gorilla trek that starts minutes from your door, then a stream-side spa, sundowners by the fire to the sound of a harp, and Ugandan feasts in a double-height jungle dining room, with every stay funding A&K Philanthropy's schools, clean-water and women's enterprise projects.

Unsere Lieblingszimmer

Ten identically generous standalone suites of 105 m², each constructed with local techniques in greens, terracotta and clay, with a king four-poster, a large rainforest-view tub and a private veranda of hanging chairs angled for spotting monkeys, so the choice comes down to position, the suites set deepest into the canopy give the most seclusion and the best birdwatching from the deck.

Essen

Refined takes on Ugandan classics alongside international dishes, continental or cooked breakfasts before the morning trek, picnic lunches packed for trekkers or lunch on the terrace, canapés and cocktails in the boma to live folk music, three-course dinners and a weekly muchomo (barbecue) night, with vegetarians and special diets well catered for, and all meals plus premium drinks included.

Tipps

Tipps zum Packen

Cool, comfortable clothing in greens, browns and khaki, long sleeves and trousers, sturdy waterproof walking boots and gaiters to prevent cuts, strong gloves for hauling yourself uphill, a light raincoat (it can pour even in the dry season), a fleece for cool mornings and evenings at altitude, a waterproof bag for your camera, plus repellent, antimalarials and a face mask to wear near the gorillas.

Insider-Tipps

Being inside the park gates means your trek briefing is minutes away rather than an hour's drive, so you start fresh, book your gorilla permit separate from the rate well ahead as numbers are strictly capped, and note the minimum age for gorilla trekking is 15. Add the three-hour Munyaga waterfall walk, a Batwa community visit and the short stroll to A&K's women-run bike and bead enterprises.

Bemühungen um den Naturschutz

Every stay supports A&K Philanthropy's community and conservation work around Bwindi, including building and improving schools, a safe-water-for-schools program, school feeding, a bike enterprise employing local women, the Meraki Women's Bead Project, and the Bwindi Community Hospital and Nursing School, while the 2025 rebuild used local materials and techniques and local craftswomen made the banana-leaf wallpaper and beaded chandeliers.
