About a 20-minute drive (roughly 20 km) from King Shaka International Airport (DUR), which has domestic and regional flights, and around 45 minutes from central Durban; easy self-drive or private transfer, with Ballito town about 5 km away.
Seven distinct rooms in the main house plus a villa. The two ground-floor Ocean View Rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows and a balcony, while the two Pool View Rooms sit amid the gardens with direct pool access. Upstairs, the Courtyard Suite overlooks the gardens, the spacious open-plan Ocean Suite has its own seating area and balcony, and the romantic Sala Suite, the standout, is more secluded with a four-poster bed. All en-suites have double vanities and rainfall showers (bathtubs in all but the Pool View rooms). For families or groups wanting privacy, the self-contained three-bedroom Villa has its own pool, living area and kitchen. Reviewers rave about the design, the ocean views and the personal service.
Acclaimed fine dining served exclusively to hotel guests, from beach barbecues of crab, lobster, squid and swordfish to elegant plated dinners, alongside an à la carte restaurant and terrace with ocean views, with Ballito's wide choice of restaurants a short drive away.
Resort-casual and swimwear for the beach and heated pool, reef shoes for the rocky shore and tidal pool, a light layer for sea breezes and cooler winter evenings (June–August), sun protection year-round, and smart-casual for dinner, no safari or malaria kit needed here.
Sala's fine dining is for house guests only and is a highlight, so plan to eat in rather than booking elsewhere. It's an adults-oriented, romantic retreat, families with teenagers need two rooms, or the Villa. Time a whale-and-dolphin watch from your balcony (the "Dolphin Coast" is aptly named), and make the most of the Terres d'Afrique spa.
Not a conservation property as such, though its wellness ethos centres on connection to nature and the Indian Ocean, and it offers private access to a protected tidal pool and unspoilt coves.
